Owner, Operator, Designer,
Jake was born and raised in Mahone Bay before moving to the city of Halifax. As a Saint Mary’s University commerce student majoring in Entrepreneurship and Marketing, Jake always knew he wanted to be a business owner. During his final year of university, he was assigned a school project to operate a small business and make at least one sale. To his surprise, the business he started operating from his Dad’s workshop made far more than one sale in the four months of that semester.
A lifelong love and respect for the woodworking trade was the nail on the head (pun intended) for why Jake decided to go from passionate hobbyist to full-time artist. Coming from a family of woodworkers more than five generations deep, a natural ability and knack for woodworking was presented when Jake began this journey.
Jake enjoys all things business; keeping up-to-date on new innovations, learning from industry leaders, and developing strategies to push new and emerging enterprises forward. He has devoted his life to becoming an entrepreneur and awakes each day excited to accomplish as much as possible to bring his passions to life.
Tradition runs deep in our blood, our brand, and most importantly, our products. Everything is crafted using traditional techniques that have been passed down from generations of woodworkers.
This business started with a love of using reclaimed wood to create something new, and we have every intention of keeping it that way. Reclaimed wood is not only the most sustainable option, we believe its unique qualities and characteristics simply can’t be matched. The wood we use was initially set to be firewood. Hence our tagline: Art. Not Ash.
Our products are made to last a lifetime. We go above and beyond everywhere we can, never skipping steps, to ensure the longevity and quality of our pieces. Every piece is made to preserve and showcase the natural beauty of our wood slabs.
Our lifetime warranty is a strong nod to the quality we offer.
We carry out operations in beautiful Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. All the wood we use has been sourced from Nova Scotia and we always aim to buy local when outsourcing. Improving the local community through employment and economy stimulation is very important to us.
Family is at the heart of our values because it is the very reason this business started. We all bring our own expertise and passion to the table, enabling CUT to continue handcrafting beautiful, one-of-a-kind products.
