What we're all about

Creative Urban Timber (CUT) is a social enterprise located in Mahone Bay that has aligned a passion for woodworking with a commitment to sustainability. Using salvaged Nova Scotian hardwoods, we handcraft custom live edge furniture for homes and commercial spaces across the province.

Our Story

Our innovative approach for sourcing local wood provides the company with access to local live edge (natural edge) hardwood that is unparalleled in its unique qualities and character. This same approach allows us to divert thousands of pounds of hardwood from ending up in landfills or rotting away on woodlots each year. We are proud to say that we have salvaged over 16,000 lbs of hardwood.

Specializing in high-quality, handmade tables of all shapes and sizes, we use a combination of traditional and modern woodworking techniques to build all of our products. All creations are unique, handcrafted, and designed with attention and care for every last detail. 5 generations of woodworking and the mentorship of his Father has given the owner, Jake Arsenault, the skills and passion to design one-of-a-kind, solid wood creations that are built to last a lifetime.

Jake started CUT while finishing his business degree at Saint Mary’s University, with help from professors, the Sobey School of Business Development Centre, and The Spark Zone. Since graduating, Jake has been growing the business into an organization known for its positive environmental impact and quality handmade products.

We take great pride turning wood into works of art, instead of ash.
